Dirge for Ammad
Streets and canals
Though not a ward in itself, the canals are the primary way to travel around Ammad. Since the city is built on hundreds of islands, it has no streets to speak of. All of the major thoroughfares are large canals that allow all sorts of boats and barges to travel freely around the city. In addition to the major canals are countless smaller waterways, usually no bigger than few feet wide. Often these canals will have buildings built directly over them, creating a sort of an underground alleyway system.
There are plenty of walkways in the city. These are build on different levels, depending on how tall the buildings in the area are. Very rarely you will see a walkway on the ground level, as all bridges are required to be no lower than one story off the ground. This allows larger boats to travel freely. As a result of this practice, the first floors of most buildings have become a sort of basement. While some of these walkways are pretty sizable they are not true streets, and no vehicles of any kind travel on them.
A number of Wards are connected by a rail system, allowing people to travel through the city quickly.
